labor in the Lord is not in vain – Daily Devotion | 1st September 2022

labor in the Lord is not in vain .

“These who were hired last worked only one hour, they said, and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the work and the heat of the day. But he answered one of them, I am not being unfair to you, friend. Didn’t you agree to work for a denarius? Take your pay and go. I want to give the one who was hired last the same as I gave you.Don’t I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous? So the last will be first, and the first will be last.”

Matthew 20:12‭-‬16 NIV

– A group started working at 6am for an agreed pay of one denarii each.

– Others were hired at 9am ,12 noon,3pm and even 5pm but for whatever the owner saw fit.

– One group worked for pay, others and the boss was left to decide on the reward.

– The reward for obedience was measured by generosity while those who reported for duty got their pay.

– Nothing you do for the Lord is in vain. (1Cor 15:58)

– Obedience is however more rewarding than mere reporting on duty.

“Will you obey however insignificant your ‘one hour’ of labour may look?”
